River Ness

The River Ness flows directly from our famous Loch Ness and travels 6 miles from Dores until it meets the Beauly Firth.

You will find the river just at the end of Ardross street on your left as you leave the apartments. There are a number of footbridges along the length of the River Ness where you can cross from one side of the river to the other. Walking away from the city upstream will take you past Inverness Cathedral on your right – worth a visit also.

You will pass Eden Court and keeping walking on this path on riverside until it takes you to the Ness Islands. A small collection of islands in the middle of the river. You can go across each island via bridges taking you across to the other side of the river where you can return to the city and enjoy the floral gardens, some beautiful buildings and you may spot the odd fisherman fishing for salmon.

Alternatively you could leave the islands via Bught Park exit and walk past the Inverness Leisure Centre and located nearby is the Floral Hall – a sub tropical horticultural display with small waterfalls, fish and an assortment of plants and trees. There is a cafè offering hot drinks and snacks.

Allow 1 to 2 hours for the complete circular walk but you can make it as long or as short as your time allows.
