The fort was built in the wake of the Battle of Culloden (1746) as a secure base for King George II’s army – it has never been attached. A large and impressive attraction to walk and explore. A great day out but this one may be better when the weather is kind. You will get to visit the Highlanders’ Museum, Exhibition, Barracks, Grand Magazine, Visitor Centre, Chapel, Gift Shop, Cafè and there is an audio guide.

Landmark Forest Adventure, Carrbridge PH23 3AJ T: 01479 841613 – 37 mins by car, 26 miles
A drive out of city but we think the family will LOVE this one. This park is packed full of adventure and built within a forest so you can be on a rollercoaster one minute and watching squirrels only a stone throw away. There are climbing walls, a dinosaur kingdom, a maze, wild water coaster, highwire course, butterfly house, bamboozeleum, skydiving and more. There is a picnic area if you want to take your own food or if you prefer there is a cafè and restaurant on site. Lots for children and families but please note there are height restrictions on some of the rides so check this to avoid disappointment. We think you will love this one. Free Parking.
